Disability Insurance is the insurance that will provide someone an income in the event that they are unable to perform the task of their job and make money from that. 

There are different definitions of Disabilities and some coverages will give, and cost, different amounts based on the status of your diability. 

Short Term Disability is any disability that stops you from working for a short period of time which is typically around 3 to 6 months. Long Term Disability on the other hand is any disability that inables the person from working for over 6 months. 

In both of these cases there is a period called the elimination period where a person must wait the designated amount of time in the period before getting disability benefits.
